GET INVOLVED ! ! !

RATIFY ! Push for immediate ratification by countries that have signed the Rome Statute and immediate accession to the treaty by those that have not with the aim of universal ratifications. For a report of the status of country ratifications, click here. For national and regional contact information of groups working on the ICC, click here or email the Women's Caucus at caucus@iccwomen.org

IMPLEMENT ! Countries that ratify the Rome Statute must also ensure that their domestic systems are set up to address the crimes within the ICC's jurisdiction. This is significant as some of the crimes of sexual and gender violence that are included in the Rome Statute have not been codified in domestic systems. For more information about implementing legislation and NGO efforts, click here. (under construction). For information about how the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and Additional Protocols have been implemented into domestic law, click here.

DOCUMENT ! From the moment the Rome Statute enters into force on 1 July 2002, the crimes prohibited by the Statute may be subject to the jurisdiction of the ICC as well as the jurisdiction of national systems where the crimes occurred or when committed by nationals of countries that have ratified. For more information about documenting war crimes and crimes against humanity, click here.

NOMINATE ! Women's groups from countries that have ratified must be involved in identifying gender-aware candidates at the national level. For more information about the criteria for judges and other personnel in the ICC as well as nomination methods, click here.

ADVOCATE ! Women's groups must continue to monitor and influence the Court in the future to enable and ensure women's access and ensure the Court fully implements its gender mandate. Women's groups will also need to monitor national courts to ensure they effectively and appropriately try cases of sexual and gender violence that could otherwise be tried in the ICC.
